CONCERNS ABOUT HIGH-FAT, LOW-CARB DIETS
It is true there are a few concerns when following a high-fat, low-carb diet. You can have issues like constipation, electrolyte imbalances from low sodium (salt), dizziness, and muscle cramps but they are easy to prevent and manage.
When you cut out the carbs you lower your insulin levels. That causes the kidneys to dump salt, or sodium, from your kidneys, because insulin causes you to retain salt (and thus water). This can cause muscle cramps. The best solution is to add 1 to 2 teaspoons of salt to your diet every day.
Also drink 8 glasses of water or more a day, I recommend at least .5 ounces per pound of body weight, (150 lbs x .5 = 75 ounces) because you will lose a lot of fluid as you detox from all the sugar and processed foods you are now consuming. Mark Hyman, MD, Eat Fat Get Thin.
When you cut out a lot of grains and beans and eat more fat, your fiber intake can drop. However, if you eat a ton of vegetables, nuts and seeds and some fruit, all of which contains a lot of fiber, you shouldn’t have any problems.
A short-chain fatty acid (SCFA) called butyrate is a superhero within its fatty acid community. High-fiber foods such as leafy greens and asparagus enable butyrate-producing bacteria to thrive. We can also obtain butyrate in the form of butyric acid through our diet, mainly from creamy, rich, grass-fed butter (the term butyrate actually derives from the Greek work for butter). According to studies, one-tablespoon of butter typically delivers 14 grams of fat, of which 560 mg is butyric acid.
Butyrate has many health benefits, including increased insulin sensitivity, improved cardiovascular health, lower cholesterol, reduced inflammation, and better appetite control. High Fiber Keto by Naomi Whittel
